Where I stayed
Another lousy night’s sleep (for me at least) - this is getting to be a habit! And another early morning wake up call for the second leg of the Mekong cruise. Yet more amazing jungle, villages, fishermen and fishing poles/nets. This time the river was much rougher and we went over several sets of small rapids and wound our way from side to side to avoid rocks in the water - it must be extremely difficult when the water is slightly higher,.
Stopped at a silk weaving/rice whisky village and were confronted with the small children asking for dollars again. The main lane through the village was full of stalls selling beautiful hand woven scarves and runners - and yes, I succumbed and bought one - it was very cheap!!
Before we arrived at Luang Prabang we stopped at the Pak Ou caves to see the statues of Buddha which are there - 4,500 in the lower cave and 2,500 in the upper cave (up 250 steps in about 35 degrees C).
Finally we arrived at Luang Prabang and were taken to the hotel passing the most amazing temples on the way. I think we are going to like this place.
The hotel is very stylish and has the most amazing orange kimono style bathrobes and matching slippers!
Then had a wander round the night market - and a lot of restraint on my behalf as everything is very cheap and there are some beautiful bags and scarves
Are very confused with the currency - I think we are just tired - but we went to the ATM and took out 10,000 kip - which we thought was a lot of money - but when we worked it out was only 80p (I expect the charges come to more than that!!).
