Our drive today was north, back through the edge of Watertown on our way to Alexandria Bay and a tour on Uncle Sam’s Boat Tour of The Thousand Islands. The drive was lovely and we were very surprised to see some of the maples already turning color as we drove north! The wildflowers along the road were spectacular.
We arrived at our destination, Alexandria Bay, NY at 10:20 so our drive wasn’t too terribly long. After signing up for the 2 ½ hour Two Countries Tour which was scheduled to start at 11:30, we walked through the little village for about 40 minutes. We had hoped to find a place that we could park Big Muf in and spend the night there in Alexandria Bay and actually thought we had found one but as it turned out later, it was not to be
The boat pulled out a little after 11:30 and we had a marvelous trip. The weather was just perfect—a few clouds in a blue, blue sky, low humidity, and just enough breeze to keep us comfortable. Perfect! Our boat ride was in The St. Lawrence Seaway as we wended our way past many of The Thousand Islands that lie in the water there. Our trip along with its views of monstrous mansions as well as tiny little houses that dot the islands there was incredible. Many of the huge older mansions were built before the stock market crash in 1929 and they were outstanding in their opulence. We personally liked some of the tiny little jewel boxes of houses along our tour better. All of them were wonderful to look at and drool over, and our trip was superb.
After coming back to town we tried again to find a close place to park overnight so that we could enjoy the little harbor village but finally gave up and just had "lupper" (lunch and supper) before heading on our way. Our first thought was that we would go back to where we were last night which was a lovely park and, as John said, “The only KOA we have ever stayed at that felt like it was a bargain.” Its only problem was the ba-jillions of tiny little flying bugs that were all over the place taking some of the fun out of being outside
We drove 97 miles today and John says that we have probably gone as far North as we will on this trip. We filled up with gasoline and the price of gas was $3.89/gallon. (Cash price)
