So why do we love to do it? Why do we love to travel so much? Maybe I should rephrase this as I can't talk for everyone. So do I love to do this and travel to places like Africa? I like staying at cheap places, sometime places that are dives, but definitely not resort deluxo places. I like to ravel on local busses, drink the local water and eat the local food. What is the appeal? Yes, the animals in Africa offer huge ginormous appeal. But that very soon wears off for most folks if the comfort level of travel, accommodation , and access to a shower are all low.

I think for me its about the people you meet, the excitement and thrill of the unpredictability and uncertainty of your situation, and the freedom and tranquility of temporarily at least, being moved form the first-world rat-race. I can see things from a different situation and perspective, different parts of my mind are stimulated, and my soul or spirit or whatever you call it has truly and completely gorged itself on the stuff it needs.

So let me share with you a few snippets about the people I have met so far.

Olga is a 29yr-old Russian pilot who flies wealthy guests in a bush plane to where ever they want to go, remote resorts mostly, and drinks way too much white wine.

Christina is an architect from Romania who lives in Germany. She has been traveling for 4 months around southern Africa. She just arrived in Namibia by bus and was disappointed at the lack of cheap non-tour transportation there is. She smokes and drinks red wine, and wants a tattoo, but doesn't really know what or where.

I mention the tattoo only because I don't know the next persons name. I'll cal her tattoo girl. She had what I thought was a really cool tattoo on her ankle so I asked her to explain it to me. I can't remember most of it, but every little piece had significance and a meaning and she designed it herself. You can see the flower, but can you see the yin and yan? What about the heart and the other symbols that occur in groups of three? She was in actually a white Kenyan who was living in Cape Town teaching people how to grow vegetable gardens. But her VISA was up so she had to leave to get a new one so came to Namibia. She thought it would be a quick process, but was told it would take 5 days. Shame, as she only brought 2 t-shirts!

Then there is Henrick. Look at his picture? He is actually a doctor, a surgeon! He has been shot once and stabbed several times as he works in township clinics providing healthcare for almost free. He said he treats loads of gunshots and stabbing wounds. He has been living out of this tent for 6 months!

Then I got talking to a Scottish lady called Penny. She is working in the northern part of Namibia with the Himba people to establish campsites at villages as a way for them to generate an income from tourists. Although I have mixed feelings about this as it changes their culture, but I suppose cultures do evolve.

Right now I'm staying at the Arebbush Lodge. My roommate is Sanjaya from India. He manages several tiger reserves. How cool is that? I think that was fate, as I have always wanted to go to India and do something with Tigers. I mean how totally brilliant would that be?? We take off for the CCF field station tomorrow and will stay at the Cheetah View Farm.

Of course I've met loads of other people. Its just fascinating talking to them, finding out their story which in tern opens your mind, expands your horizons, and just makes you think.

OK, so if you are the brave few who have read down this far. Yes, I've already soon some fantastic animal stuff. Just look at the video - bloody amazing isn't it? And, my cell phone now works. I paid $10 to a web service who emailed me the unlock code.
