I arrived after my 6 hour train ride to a city that was very much unlike Bangkok. Hua Hin has a very slow, laid-back, beach town feel. Granted the prices are slightly higher, it's well worth it. Most of the "farang" (Westerners) here are from Europe and somewhere in their 50's and 60's. There are many couples from England and Australia staying at the beautiful Hilton Hotel right on the beach and even more single men looking for a cheap thrill with a young Thai lady, that stay in the mid-priced hotels. I am staying in a cheap budget guest house with a couple of German guys and some friendly Canadian girls only a block from the beach.
The food here is great. About two blocks away is a German Bier Garten with "wiener-schnitzel" and Spaten Bier. The "mild" Thai dishes are incredibly spicy but very tasty. They even have a McDonald's which I definitely want to avoid.
Today I am going on an elephant trek to a very popular waterfall. Kaeng Krachan is Thailand's largest national park which houses wild elephants, deer, tigers, bears, and gibbons. Don't worry though, I'll be high atop an Asian elephant.
