We headed out of Fort Irwin to the Flying J to fill our one tank. Diesel is much cheaper in Ellenberg, AZ which is on our itinerary to stop at next. We headed out of Barstow down highway 40 toward Needles. Here, the Colorado River flows through the town. The Needle Mountains take my breath away - all craggy and sharp pointed. One of my favorite scenic spots in our big country.
We took Hwy. 95 out of Needles. We had never been on this road before, so it was all new to us. Yet, more of the same desert scenery! We passed through small towns that dotted the landscape until we got to Blythe and I10 into Arizona. We were headed to Ellenberg and the Flying J to fill both tanks. Dale had done his research on prices per gallon and this place was the less expensive in Arizona. They also had a Wendy's so we grabbed some lunch to go.
Next town we came to was Quartzite, 17 miles away from Ellenberg. Before we even came to the town we could see RV parked helter skelter in the desert. We will be back here on the 7th for two weeks, so we didn't stop. After two weeks of boondocking, I will be ready for a very hot shower that will last about an hour!
As we drove toward Yuma the road was bumpy, the ones where you tummy hits your shoes kind of bumps. We hit a stretch of very rough road and I knew everything in the RV would be everywhere. It was. We passed the check point station - checking for illegals going north, the prototype for building the Golden Gate Bridge and the Yuma Proving Grounds. Thank goodness we remembered how to get to the SKP park.
We pulled in late to the park and had to stay in the boondocking area. Kathy and Terry met us as we pulled in. It was so good to see them. It was also game night and we arrived just in time. Off I went while Dale did his thing with the RV. I learned a new card game, 31. It was fun and in no time I lost my dollar and was finished. Off I went to get Dale and we hit the hot tub. This park has a swimming pool and hot tub!
We happened to come on one of their coldest nights. We had no water in the RV, using it all visiting with Lesa. Using the furnace drains the batteries very, very fast. It was cold. I won't go into what I wore to bed and how many blankets we put on the bed!!!! I can just tell you I was in the office the second it open to sign up for a space! It was good to get into our space and get us warm.
