Between an earthquake that reached 5.1 on the richter scale and a flu that put me out of commission for four days, Manizales did not have much hope of being one of the most pleasant stops on my little tour. Lucky for me I was staying with a couple of implanted American teachers, Kyobi and Stephanie, that I met through the website couchsurfing.com. They acted entirely as my surrogate mothers - making sure I had all the drugs I needed to combat the flu and sitting on my bed following the earthquake, stroking my hair until the tears stopped flowing and the soothing rhythm of sucking my thumb lulled me back to sleep. Thanks guys!
