We decided to have one more night of luxury at another of Darjeeling's colonial hotels as an early birthday present for Jerry. It was to be his 40th birthday in Bhutan a few days later. We managed to secure a good deal at the Mayfair Hotel which was even more luxurious than the Elgin with large beautiful gardens, a pool table and table tennis. It proved the perfect decision as there was a national strike in India and all of Darjeeling was closed down. We made full use of the facilities and ate stupendous indian food washed down by gin and vodka and tonic. Bliss!! Maggi's pool is much improved and with some luck she even managed to beat Jerry once.
