Gyabo promised to wake us early if the weather was clear and thankfully it was as he knocked us up at 5.30am. We were rewarded with our 1st view of Kanjanjunga, which was magnificent. He promised us the view would be even better at our next stop 18km away at Sandakphu. We set off after a delicious breakfast of porridge and tibetan bread. The lodge was also a farm so a baby goat had been born that morning. We enjoyed watching it bond with its mother in the warm sun.

We were hopeful of better weather as we set off in warm sunshine but the mists rolled in within an hour and by the time we reached our lunchstop, it was freezing cold and Maggi even resorted to wearing gloves. The lunchtime lodge was very basic and not a place to linger, so after a basic noodle soup with wicked chilli sauce, we set off steeply up for the last 6km. The last couple of km's were very hard work as we reached 3600m. By then the mist was again very thick and heavy rain started just as we reached the lodge. There was no welcoming stove as on the Nepal trek so Maggi had to make do with a hot water bottle, sleeping bag and lots of blankets to warm up. However we did have another delicious dhal bhat with fresh spinach before retiring for an early night, which hearing more heavy rainfall. We were again apprehensive of seeing the promised views.
