On the way back from Namtso Lake we stopped at Sera monastery on the north edge of Lhase, which is famous for the unique style of debating practiced by its monks in a tree filled, shady courtyard each afternoon. This was indeed an interesting experience as the monks in groups of 10 took turns to make their arguments by emphasising with a loud clap of their hands. However there were almost as many tourists taking photos as monks and you couldn't help thinking that it was a charade put on for show. An action packed couple of days was capped by a cold beer on our hotel roof in the hot sun admiring the Potala palace again!! We still can't stop looking at its awesome presence over the city.
