After a couple of days of full on sight seeing we decided to take it easy for a day. We arranged our onward travel and set off for what was supposed to be a nice relaxing dim sum lunch. Unfortunately the restaurant we selected was impossible to find and by then we were too late for dim sum as it is only served for lunch. We compromised on some sushi instead.

We then went for some shopping and almost bought a beautiful dragon vase, supposedly ming dynasty (17th century). However when the shopkeeper went to wrap it she bashed the lid which chipped rather badly. Jerry said it was fate but I really liked it and was rather upset.

The day was redeemed by a show of chinese acrobatics. The show was jaw droppingly spectacular and knocks the spots of Cirque de Soleil. Highlights were a double jointed girl (twisting and balancing another acrobat and then doing a solo act with umbrellas), a boy tighrope walker (including a uni cycle, ladder and summersaults), a troupe of young girls with spinning tops and the finale of guys spinning on poles. Brilliant.

We ended the day with a Mongolian hotpot, which Beijing is also famous for. A pot of boiling broth or spicy oil is used to cook meats and vegetables which end up very tender and delicious.
