Kashgar is a real culture shock after the conservativeness of Pakistan. Suddenly we are able to wear shorts again (a real pleasure) and Jerry is constantly turning round to look at chinese girls in skimpy mini skirts. No power cuts, clean and efficient hotels and lots of western treats. Beer, delicious food, icecream, granola and yoghurt. We feel like we're in 7th heaven. Chinese hotels are a bit strange at 1st. You always have to pay a deposit, then you're sent to a floor manger who gives you a key. Your room is cleaned daily and you get lots of freebies like slippers, shampoo, soap, combs, toothbrush etc. Best of all they're cheap. We're liking china already.
Kashgar doesn't really have a great deal of sights so we concentrated on chilling out, catching up on pleasures and people watching. Kashgar is predominantly Uigur (a central eastern muslim race)the faces of the old guys are brilliant.
We decided not to stay for the famous Kashgar market after universally negative comments from all the travellers we met.
