After an arduous and windy journey back to the KKH we drove up the Naltar Valley on another difficult road. Typically Pakistan, the head of the police had decided to stay too and our reservation at the best guest house was cancelled, leaving us with a grotty alternative. We chose instead to walk up the valley towards Naltar Lake to camp, just managing to cross a fast flowing river before dark.
The next morning we set off at crack of dawn to try to reach the lake, apparently with beautiful crystal clear waters and colours. Unfortunately after an hour we encountered another swollen snowmelt river which proved beyond us to cross. So disappointed we headed back.
The fruitless walk was really tiring and when we got back we were shattered.
Naltar Valley is beautiful with pine trees, snow and rivers, but poor access and accommodation lets it down badly.
