The PIA flights from Islamabad to the north are often cancelled due to the weather, so thank Allah our flight was on time and there were clear views of the mountains. We flew in a small Fokker aircraft, which wound through the spectacular mountains.

Even better we were invited to the cockpit for almost the full duration. The pilot showed us all the main peaks as we went and insisted we stay (without seatbelts) for the landing too. He joked with Maggi that she had to show him where the runway was as we flew directly at a mountainside. Then seconds before we would have crashed he banked to the left where the runway suddenly came into view! He made a perfectly smooth landing and we were very happy to be back on terra firma!
