The Wagah border ceremony was fantastic - a real hotbed of nationalistic passions and drama. We only just arrived in time with the crowds already in place and smart soldiers in line. A mixture of pantomime and Monty Python, followed with high stepping marches to the border line with the briefest of handshakes, disdainful faces amidst a cacophony of 'Pakistan" and Allah lead by 2 cheerleaders.
Although there were 3 times as many people on the Indian side, it seemed much louder and passionate from Pakistan - we'll have to come again on the Indian side to see! The final scene was the lowering of the flags exactly side by side to great cheering. This ceremony has taken place every day since partition in 1947 and was a truly unique experience.
