After another long train journey (only 24 hrs this time) we arrived in Amritsar, still baking hot at nearly 50C.
We tried to stay at the golden temple but the few private rooms were full and we didn't like the look of the dorms, so we stayed at a nice hotel with AC!!
Of course the highlight of Amritsar is the sikh golden template which exceeded our expectations. We were shown round for free by one of the official guides who was extremely helpful and a nice man.
Apart from the beauty of the temple itself it is a really peaceful haven from the mayhem outside. The holy scriptures are read/sung and broadcast constantly, creating a spiritual atmosphere and we were approached by people all around who merely wanted to talk cricket or practice their english. In the evening when the lights came on, the place took on yet another ambience and we were sad to drag ourselves away.
