8th to 10th April 2008
On Tues, 8th I left Montevideo behind and caught the bus to the charming city of Colonia del Sacramento. I managed to share the taxi fare with a girl from Portland, US, who was heading to Punta del Este. I arrived around 2pm and walked 10 minutes to the hostel. I bumped into the two Irish guys that I met in Easter Island, about 6 weeks ago - small world! I then settled down to watch the Liverpool v Arsenal Champions League match. It was an exciting match with one minute Liverpool going through, then Arsenal but eventually Liverpool prevailed - yahoo! Yesterday, I walked around the old, historical streets of Colonia. The Portuguese founded Colonia in 1680 to smuggle goods across to Buenos Aires but the Spanish captured it in 1762 and held it until 1777. The old part of the city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage with the old streets still cobbled. I sat down at a cafe adjacent to the Rio de la Plata and had lunch. It was so relaxing and tranquil watching the ferries arrive and depart to Buenos Aires.
Today, I took a walk along the coast and the beach. I visited the old Plaza el toros (bullring). Then I walked back to the centre and chilled some more at a street cafe with a beer. Cheers, Duncan More thumbnails ...
