10th to 12th Aug 2007
This is my last night in Chiang Mai before heading of to the border with Laos to catch the slow boat to Luang Prabang. The past few days have been a little busy. On Friday, 10th I did a 1 day trekking tour, this involved trekking up and down steep jungle trails to arrive at the hill tribe families. Met up with 6 girls from Liverpool who were doing a 5 week break around SE Asia. After the jungle trek we headed of to ride with the elephants then we had lunch and bought the photo that they took at the elephant ride. After lunch we headed towards another hill tribe family (Karen) and then onwards to a waterfall. Some then went on a bamboo raft down the river but I decided to opt out along with a couple of others as the raft didn't look too safe. After the rafting we headed back to Chiang Mai and headed out for dinner and a walk around the city and a had a few drinks in the bars.
The following 2 days I decided to to take it a little easier. On Saturday (11th) I just had a walk around the city and visited a few wats and temples - Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chiang Man (the oldest in the city). At night I had dinner in a restaurant called the "The Whole Earth" - definitely recommend it to anyone coming to Chiang Mai. The food and service was great. I then wandered around the night markets and popped in for a few drinks at some pubs. Today I took a taxi up to Doi Su thep. Climbed all 302 stairs to the temple but at least it was well worth it. The views of the city was amazing and the temple was fantastic. Came back down to the city and just had another relaxing afternoon and evening walking around the city and stopping off at a few bars and having a Singha beer or two.
Well that's my lot for now. Pictures to follow soon. Duncan More thumbnails ...
