I have been feeling a a bit sick for the last few days, nothing specific, I just feel terrible everytime I eat. I have either picked up a very mild bug or I am suffering from the insane amounts of MSG in all Chinese cooking. Am feeling a little better though so have just had a walk around Dali, taken some photos of the touristy but still very pretty old town, and managed to buy some street food and pay for it, the entire transaction done in Chinese.
I arrived in Dali and struggled a bit to find a guest house that I liked. Eventually I decided to head back to the Tibetan Lodge, a place where Dave and I stayed when we were here last time. Error. On first look the room I got was small but OK. At 2am this morning, when I could still hear the people in the bar opposite (which was not there 2 years ago) partying, and my room, which was above the kitchen, still smelt of stale chip fat....I begun to suspect this was not the place I wanted to spend the next week. At 5am when the leaking toilet was still keeping me awake this view was consolidated. At 8am when the music on the street started again, I got out of bed and hastily got on the internet to find somewhere else to stay. I have ended up at a new place called the Jade Emu, which whilst out of the town a little way is beautiful and friendly and peaceful and I am feeling entirely better. Although the 3 boys who I am sharing a dorm with seem to have had some kind of problem with their bags last night, as the entire contents of all 3 bags are strewn all across the room! Boys!
