Timberlake Acres RV park
Saturday was cold, foggy and rainy so we decided to just drive around Mt.Desert Island. Had lunch at. Saw Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.
Sunday after visiting the Ellsworth CS society, we drove to Camden, a charming little harbor town. It was also foggy that day, but there were lots of folks out anyway. We wandered around the shops and then went to dinner at Water Front Restaurant. Had a lobster.
Monday finally dawned a clear sunny day. We went to Acadia Nat'l Park on Mt. Desert Island. We enjoyed touring the roads in the park. Walked down on the only beach and there were lots of people spending the day in the surf. In the evening we went to Lemoine to see the Handbell Choir concert. Very enjoyable. The concert was in an old church that is now used for a community center. Afterward we drove down to Lemoine Beach and saw the sun set over the seacoast
Tuesday we drove to Bucksport to see the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. It's quite a striking thing to see and you can take an elevator up into the tower. It is on the grounds of Fort Knox which was built during the Civil War but never was used. We had lunch in Bucksport.
Thursday we went on a whale watch. Saw some whales. The day was overcast and quite cold and it's 40 degrees out on the ocean. I didn't enjoy it that much. Afterwards we had dinner at a dockside restaurant and then hunted sea glass in the harbor when the tide was out.
Friday went to Kathie's Restaurant for breakfast and then we drove to Schoodic Peninsula which is also part of Acadia Nat'l Park. Hiked out on the rocks to see the waves crash on the point. Then went to Petit Manan, a nature preserve, where we took a long hike out to the ocean. Very pretty area.
Sat. Riverside Cafe for breakfast. Then walked around the saturday farmer's market place. Bought a handwoven scarf. Walked around town of Ellsworth. Had dinner at Jordan's lobster pound.
Sunday. Went to church and met lots of new friends. Went for lunch at Chester Pike's with Diana and Terry Arney, Margo and Dusty Baily, and David Robertson. Went home to change clothes--something warmer--and then went to concert at Pierre Monteux school for conductors and orchestra musicians. Awesome! Went to reversing falls. Picked up chowder at Jordan's for dinner at home.
Monday July 4. Drove to Moosehead Lake to see Robin and Jack Goodwin, friends from our '06 Baja caravan. Had an enjoyable lunch and visit. On the way back we saw our first moose but he ran into the woods before we could get a photo.
