The only thing good was I had a tiny kitten trying to help me repair my tire, which I thought was very cute.
Guess what the temperature is today??? 41again!!! At least the closer I came to Varna on the coast the better the roads became. The heat was getting way too intense and I started to become dizzy while riding so I had to start taking shade breaks as much as possible.
I painted a bleak picture of Bulgaria with the place I stayed at in SIlistra but as I approached Varna things looked a lot better. Varna is a resort town so it is expected to be a bit more modern but even on the outskirts, away from the beach, it was that way. The city was a mix of the old communist buildings and modern design and was very lively.
I was looking forward to a cold shower and relaxing in my air conditioned room. There was an A/C unit in the room but it did not work. At least the common room had some A/C. The shower was hilarious. It was a toilet and shower room in one. That is not uncommon at all but it is when it is the size of a small bathroom stall at a public building. You can see in the pictures that there was a small window that was open - that was the only safe place to put your clothes and towel in hopes they would not get wet
As in Romania I had a few dogs chasing me but a lot less. I also notice that there seemed to be more cats in the city until Bucharest where there were almost none. They all look so skinny and grumpy. While walking in the side streets I decided to feed a momma and her two kittens. Next things there was a dozen cats around. So I broke my chicken into several pieces and scattered them for all.
After that I walked down to the Black Sea and waded in the water a bit. It was almost night time so the temperature was manageable. It was time to go crash in the slightly cool hostel and recover.
