I am trying to catch up on the blog while ın Keşan, Turkey. The spell check was acting weird and I do not see the mistakes it was poıntıng out (it may have something to do wıth Turkish keyboard so please forgive any weird spacıng issues). My time in Belgrade was up and I did enjoy the city. The roads in and around Belgrade, well hell, the whole of Serbia are left to be desired. I think that driving in the daylight may be as dangerous as the night time fiasco I described earlier. Another great thing is that I get to see the beautiful countryside. Which it is, however it also seems that randomly the side of the road becomes a garbage dump. I am not talking about a rest stop area with a pile of garbage near it, I am talking about all types of household refuse piled up. Some were even burning like a proper dump. The best one was in a parking lot on the edge of a small town and there was a shop with a patio just meters away from the burning garbage. You can't buy ambiance like that in other places of the world.

There is no such thing as a shoulder and the edge of the road is filled with potholes. Place on top of that, the fact that drivers really do not lıke bikers on side roads and you have a recipe for a fun day on the bike. The crazy thing is that part of my route seem to also be part of the EuroVelo Route 6 - I do not think many of the casual bike travellers would appreciate this.

Once I got closer to my destinaton the roads became a little smoother. But the first 60km outside of Belgrade I would never bike again.

Two days in a row with no rain - sweet!

The day was pretty uneventful, aside from trying not to get killed. This creates a lot of tension in the shoulders.

I actually stayed just outside of Veliko Gradište in a resort area called Silver Lake. It is an up and coming place and they are building vacation homes and hotels like crazy. The place itself is nice and I think it is for the more well off of Serbia, or at least that is what the planners are hoping.

I walked around the beach a few times and had some ice cream and then watched the Olympics in my room for the rest of the night.
