I have finally found the Internet on my 7th day. Current;y at Miles Hostel in Prague, but I will get to that later. I need to start at the beginning of my trip.

So The day before, and the day of, my flight I was frantically getting things done to put the final paperwork in order to purchase our first house, plus I had to work. Damn you job that pays my bills and allows me to afford to do stupid things like bike across Eastern Europe! That being said I had neglected to do some of the final small things for the trip, like program my GPS so I know where to freakin' go. The only time I had was overnight so I never went to bed on Thursday night. The fun part comes when I have a multiple day journey to get to the start. All in all I managed to pass out on train for an hour and also for an hour in Frankfurt airport. In total I had 2 hours sleep in a 51 hour span. I was ready to sleep when I got to my first hotel in Herzberg (about 30 min outside of Berlin limits).

Originally I was to land in Schoenfeld Airport but it isn't built yet so I landed at Tegel - 32 km in the opposite direction of my planned starting point. Originally I was going to put my bike together at airport and bike away and then sleep in woods whenever it became dark. In retrospect I am happy as pig in mud that I took a train outside of Berlin and stayed in a hotel and left the fallowing morning. Fate smacked up the side of the face and forced me to do something reasonable and not my usual stupid idea.

I am not sure what the hell they were doing at Frankfurt airport but going on the domestic flight to Berlin they made us go through the security check and scanners. It was complete chaos as many of us were in one of the 5 lines and after 10 minutes they closed the one I was in and we just tried going into other lines. My second line closed after another 10 minutes. Then the third line closed after 15 minutes. I started to get mad but what's the use as I had another 5 1/2 hours until my flight. But I am starting to reconsider my previously held stereotype that Germans are efficient and on time! Scheiße!!!

On to my actual travels (I know you are saying about F'ing time). I get off the Lindenberg station which is about 15km away from the hotel. I begin the slow walk with my backpack on and my bike box on my shoulders. Not the easiest of task. I must have looked terribly sad as Stephan, a local, was driving past and had to stop and help me. I had the bike balanced on my head at this point to give my shoulders a break, so I was not turning down his generosity. The problem was my bike did not quite fit that easy into his compact car. We managed to make it work and he drove me the last kilometer. My first hero of my trip!

After checking in I showered, then briefly walked around the neighbourhood (a town of about 100 inhabitants), watched some "Bones" dubbed in German and then went to sleep as it was 10:30pm. The end of day of my journey and despite some mild hallucinations from lack of sleep I was feeling pretty good.

Duane, reading your blog with interest. Hope your ass is feeling better, and you are speeding along. I'm jealous; however, I am now able to walk as far as my bus stop and with fortitude I may be able to bike as far as your place next year. Not quite Turkey but it's a start.

So you can walk to bus stop. Does that mean you are already thinking about going back to work?
