The first day into Mexico was fantastic. The drive down from Tucson across the border into was Nogales was uneventful, and the border crossing was easy, although interesting driving through for sure. They don't tell you much about what you need (paperwork etc.) at the border, and we didn't ask any questions, so we squeaked on by without any problems. Made it to the town of Guaymas that evening, but didn't find anyplace that looked great to stay, so we opted to backtrack a little to the town of San Carlos, a little off the Hwy. This turned out to be a great decision, as we immediately found a little RV park that let us camp for $5 a night (each). Food and beer is inexpensive, and the views are fantastic. The next morning we got up, readied the bikes to go, and went out to find a place to get some food. Met a couple of other motorcycle travelers there that were on their way back up from the Baja, and they mentioned there was a checkpoint right outside of Guaymas, and we had better have all our paperwork ready. What paperwork? Oh, you know, entry visa, registration, that sort of stuff. We had our visa's but had not paid for them yet, which can be done at any bank of all places. This got Troy thinking about his registration, and so started to hunt for it, only to find that it was in his other tank bag that came with the bike, back in Phoenix. Oops! Fortunately it was at his brothers house, and he was able to DHL it down to an office in Guaymas. So, we are hanging out in San Carlos for a few days, but is sure is a great spot. The paperwork should be here by Thursday (tomorrow) and we'll be back on our way, as far as we know!

I'll post more once we get back on the road!
Cheers!
Doug

My old haunts.
Cool, Guymas & San Carlos! I used to go down there to dive (when I was into that) back in the early 90's. It was my old A-10 days when I was stationed at Davis-Monthan and living in Tucson. Glad to be along for the ride! JK
