we're coming to you this morning from a little internet cafe at the foot of our hostel in bangkok. dan shein here writing to you first. we got into the city very late last night (~midnight) and ---given that we were too amped to sleep--- wasted no time getting a feel for the area.
we orgaized a hostel for the night. the place is located in a neighborhood called banglumpoo, a collection of streets fully packed with transient travelers like ourselves.
we walked around for a few hours, stopping in at a few bars and meeting a nice international crowd of lost souls (like ourselves).
apparantly we were absolutely raped with what we paid for the room, but that's cool. word has it that you negotiate EVERYTHING here-- they double prices expecting you to do so. but when you convert it we ended up being ripped off for about $10. everything is ridiculously cheap here.
we got back to our room shortly after 5 am. we managed to catch about 20 minutes of the masters on a scrambled and fuzzy tv set before falling asleep for a few hours.
the dimensions of our bathroom were 16 square feet (that's 4 feet X 4 feet for all you mathematicians); that includes the toilet, sink, drain in the floor and hand shower hanging next to the door.
we're organizing an overnight train down to a port named Surat Thani...hopping a ferry to the island of Kho Samui which is supposed to be absolutely beautiful. from there, we're heading to Kho Pha Ngan for a while, as well. We're mainly spending time in the island-paradise venues of the south to start. kho (which means island) samui is off the east coast. when we're done, we'll travel to the west to visit Phuket, Kho Phi Phi (peepee), Krabi, etc.
i'm sorry to say that it's over 90 degrees and bloody humid as all hell. simply fantastic. i'm going to shave my head. don't cry, mom, it'll grow back.

time to check out.
until next time...
