Nafplion is another gem of a Venetian/Byzantine town and the first capital of modern Greece. It has charming narrow streets in the old quarter, and is surrounded by historic fortifications. The Bourtzi is the small island at the entrance to the harbor. Palamidi castle is 999 steps above the city. Tomorrow we will drive to Mycenae to see this important ruin.
This evening we reached Monemvassia in the Peloponnese region of the Greek mainland. After a great dinner on the ship we went into the new area of town and had drinks at a fun bar and just walked around. In the morning we took off to visit the medieval town with its unique preserved period architecture, numerous beaches and great shops. We hiked to the top and took the wrong turn coming down so we had to back track. This was not the day to get lost, the temperature was 106 so we were drenched by the time we got back down the mountain. Lucky for us this was a short visit and the boat left port with another swim stop as we headed for Nafplion.
