Todays driving went via some big Redwoods on the coast and then headed inland down the Sacremento Valley to the California Capital of Secremento which was really a weigh point. Did the first bit of night time driving of the road trip which was quite cool with the full orange moon coming up and the top down (obviously) with the warmth coming back inland. Also noted that the classic yank tank passed a major milestone. Speaking of tanks, it is illegal to fill up your own car in the state of Oregan.
Spent last night doing some prep for the Californian part of the big Road Trip. Have concluded that there are really two routes - the route down the coast and then another route down the Sierra Navada mountains in land. This will involve going the full length of the state and then backtracking to do it again. Having decided to do the coast first i crossed over the border and caught the first sight of the coast but it was fogged in and could only see a few metres out. It was also cold. Then i remembered that the northern coast can be like this in early june but also recalled seeing a forecast last night regarding washington state and an unusual weather pattern coming. Long story short i popped into the next mcdonalds logged on to the web and saw the weather was shite down the coast for at least a week. Hence made the call to leave the coast and head in land and do the inland route first. This will potentially include Lake Tahoe, Yosemites and other national parks, Death Valley, Las Vegas and Grand Canyon before heading back to north of San Fransisco and down the coast.
