Hi y'all! One day in Athens so far. I was surprised to arrive and find it snowing! It's right around freezing and the snow melts when it hits the ground but it's cold nonetheless. Even though its cold, as a local put it, " we have to bear the freezing snow and rain snow we'll have water to drink later!" luckily its sunny today. That didn't stop me from exploring the city though! I saw the parliament building and saw the changing of the guards which happens on the hour. They allow you take pictures with guards But if you accidentally stand on the wrong (right) side of the guard, he'll pound his gun on the ground till you move! He's not allowed to talk, like the british guards. I'm staying in Monastiaki, a central part of the city close to the acropolis where I'm going today. My couchsurfing contact fell through leading me to just get a hostel. I'm staying at Hotel Fivos where 15 euros gets you a private room and breakfast... Not bad! I finally purchased a beanie and gloves, two items that were left off my packing list. Additionally i'm wearing two pairs of pants! The food is excellent. I had a souvlaki last night. Well I'll post some pictures later with views of the acropolis. Catch you later!
