Well mama dear your boy is here, far across the sea
Waiting for that sacred core that burns inside of me
And I feel a storm all wet and warm not ten miles away
Approaching my Mexican home" - John Prine "Mexican Home"

Day 19 - San Miguel De Allende, Guanajuato to Zamora De Hidalgo, Michuacan
250 km and 3 hours
We were treated to our largest breakfast of the trip today at our B & B Casa Papaya. Hosts Stan & Julie really enjoy their guests and make sure they don't walk away hungry! We wouldn't be meeting Paul until late afternoon, so we had a while to explore SMdA (as we were told they call the town) about 100,000 people so it was quite a bit busier than Real De Catorce. We walked around and saw some beautiful but expensive art. The 25,000 US & Canadian ex-pats have certainly made their mark (on the prices!) around here. Just as we were heading for the bus to go back to leave, we stumbled upon the Mercato. Now we're talking! We wished we spent the whole morning here, there were hundreds of stalls, hot fresh food, local crafts, you name it. We probably stole an hour here before heading out. The drive to Zamora saw the landscape become greener and greener and definitely more cultivated. We were in true strawberry country now!
We arrived amongst tears of joy (Donna for sure and maybe a bit from Dave too!), and big hugs from our son Paul. I can hardly believe we are here with him.
We are introduced to his 'parents' Lionelle & Luli, and were immediately welcome in to their family. We ate a VERY substantial and delicious authentic Mexican comida. A little late in the day, but they waited for us. Their big meal is lunch (comida) usually around 3pm. We are grateful for there hospitality, as they have invited us to stay with them during our time in Zamora. How lucky we are. A fairly early night as our 'batteries' are running low after 20 days on the road. Although there haven't been any terribly long driving days, the days accumulate, so it will be nice to spend a week here with maybe only 2 days away for a side trip with Paul.
I may also take a break from the blog, so don't worry if you don't see anything for a few days. We are just fine and enjoying Mexico!
