Where I stayed
The book-movie in the title of this entry is on display everywhere, but we haven`t found any of the evil, although there are certainly lots of Ghost Tours being run here! We did find a new hotel though. Marshall house was booked except for a more expensive suite, so I did some looking and found the River Street Inn. Without question, this is the best room I have EVER stayed in! It is right on the Savannah River and I paid the extra $20 to get a room on the river side it was worth it! I`m going to do a separate post on hotels, so that`s it for now.
We walked the length and breadth of the historic district today and our opinion hasn't changed. Savannah is the prettiest city we have seen in North America. The Antebellum architecture, squares, trees, everything.
At the centre of every 4 city blocks there is a square, which is a small park with green space, historical statues and benches
In the afternoon we walked to Forsythe Park at the southern end of the historic district. The park is a HUGE greenspace right downtown. We continued south for a while longer to get pictures of the 'Gingerbread House', which we had seen in many post cards. What a neat house and privately owned and maintained. We took the DOT free shuttle back to our starting point and went to 'Zunzi's for dinner. A very busy takeout counter we had passed earlier in the day. Delicious and reasonable price. After that we went and shifted the car from one parking garage to another and went for a wine & cheese reception, at the River Street Hotel this time. Sat and looked out the window at the river while Donna polished off her Chardonnay - yes that's what I said (to Donna's 'wine buddies') CHARDONNAY!!! Actually, she didn't come close to finishing the walloping glass the bartender gave her before we walked back to the room to get ready for the evening
The river is very active with ocean freighters being guided by tugs back and forth all day and night, but it is a mostly quiet activity. Not as noisy as trucks driving down the highway, but each of these big boats carry enough containers to keep a thousand trucks busy!
Back to our lovely, large room over the river and went to bed watching the freighters slip by through the night past our window.
