Day 8 -
North Myrtle Beach to Savannah Georgia (Our 8th State)
Stats - 420 KM & 6 Hrs. in car.
We had an uneventful departure from North Myrtle little traffic 'til we got to Charleston, SC. This is Mini-golf country around here, from Virginia Beach right on down past Myrtle, but today we saw the mother of all mini-golf parks - Atlanticus - couldn't even fit it all in the frame.
Our route today took us in (what must be) the back way to Savannah. It was rush hour and yet we had NO traffic all the way to town and over the big bridge over the Savannah River, and right to the historic downtown where our hotel was. We were staying at the Marshall House for a night. A neat old (1851!) small hotel, where we had a 'mini-suite' for $79 (+ tax). This included evening wine & cheese and breakfast. It was a small room, but very posh. The Riverfront and historic section are awesome, sites, amazing homes, great parks and squares, and lots of food places to try.
We originally planned on moving to Tybee Island for our 2nd night, but after we spent the afternoon strolling the streets we came to the conclusion that this was a place to spend another night!
