Well, I'm sitting in a very drafty old beach hotel room right now so I don't know how long I'm going to last.
We were up and out early this morning, I was down on the beach in front of the hotel when Donna called out that there were dolphins. Many dolphins it turned out. A neat way to start the day. We wanted to get out early as this was our first 'ferry day'. We would be catching the 10 am ferry from Knott's Island North Carolina (6th State) for a 45 minute ride to Currituck, NC. At least we would if it was running, seems it had been cancelled last night (Friday) but thankfully was back on schedule this morning. Very windy at the ferry dock, but not bad in the water (see video - my first attempt with the GoPro), the 'Vomit Comet' (me) was able to NOT turn green
We continued on for the rest of the day, almost always surrounded by dunes as we travelled the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Another 40 minute ferry ride took us from Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. We drove the length of Ocracoke and came to our hotel (booked in advance) the Island Inn. We have the 'Crows Nest' on the 3rd floor with great views of the lighthouse and the harbour BUT the only heat is an electric space heater and this is a drafty old building. When we got here around 3pm it was 65 F now it's 59! Donna has already gone to bed to try to stay warm under the covers.
The wind is still whistling, and I hope the ferry at 7:30 tomorrow is running. It's a long 2.5 hour ride, but not as long as backtracking.
