Day Two - Kane, PA to Mechanicsburg, PA
Stats - 362 KM & 6.5 Hrs. in car.
We left Kane Manor at 9 am this morning, and drove out to the Kinzua Bridge State Park to see the remains of the Bridge which stood from the 1890's until it was destroyed by a hurricane in 2003. They repaired the southern side and turned it into an observation deck. Although the gate was closed (due to people slipping on ice & snow), we climbed over and walked out. Walking out Donna couldn't believe that people would slip on such an easy path. Quite a view from the end of the Lookout. Of course on the way back in Donna slipped on some ice - Karma?!? (she didn't 'go down' so all is good!) Certainly was good for a chuckle though!
From here we continued our 'backroads' tour, heading for Mechanicsburg, home of John & Kara Arnold of Cigar Island (along with daughter Kate, son Robert, and niece Sophie - son John Jr. is away at school). Passed through some hilly country, that would likely be great on a motorcycle (I wouldn't really know as I'm not a 'biker'). Stopped and walked the streets in Bellefonte, a neat small town with some great buildings. Other neat towns & villages along the way were: Mt. Jewett; Emporium and Smithport.
We arrived at the Arnold's around 4 pm after another leisurely drive. After catching up for awhile John & Kara took us out for dinner in Harrisburg, which is the state capitol. It's an impressive city.
Dinner at Bricco was excellent and so was the company. After dinner I tested everyone's patience trying to arrange getting my cellphone to work. Talk about hoops to jump through! By the time it was over, it only involved two trips to the T-Mobile Store AND two trips to Walmart, accompanied with about an hour of time on the phone!
At least it's finally done!
