I've never actually done a travel blog, so I'll do my best to keep it as interesting as possible. Although my flight does not actually leave until Thursday, November 30, 2006 from Los Angeles, I am leaving for my folks place tomorrow as they are riding me to the airport and offered to let me store my car in their garage which is gonna make things so much easier.
I'd give some details as to the planning that has been taking place for my big trip. I have actually been thinking about doing this trip for a couple of years now, but didn't really want to skimp on the amount of time I wanted to take to actually enjoy it. I signed up for my passport two years ago and even filled out an international driver's license so it's definitely been on my mind for some time. I've been threatening myself to do it and finally here it is, no more dreaming, no more I'll do that eventually, I am doing it! My heart hasn't been in many things lately, but it's definitely in this trip, and it's time to start living.
I am going to see the country via camper van and stay at different campsites along the way, taking in different activities along the way. Some of the campsites are in great locations and have great amenities (some even with wireless Internet access). I think it will much more exciting and the scenery will be all that much more enjoyable. I am going to try and get up as early as possible everyday so I can enjoy every waking moment while I am there. I've read a lot of traveller's squeezing in different countries whilst on their way to New Zealand, so maybe that might be an option (India, China, Singapore, Australia, Fiji...).
Over the past several weeks, I've downloaded songs into my i pod for my hiking adventures, purchased a digital camera (a must), clothes, a laptop, adapters galore for charging my electronic equipment, traveller's cheques, and kiwi currency. I loved purchasing the foreign currency and my digital camera. There is just something so surreal about purchasing foreign currency and having it being given to you in large denominations. I think I will but some more when I get into Auckland. Of course, I am also looking forward to picking up my camper van when I arrive and stocking it up with goodies (sand fly repellent, sunscreen, food). All the information I read says to get the hell out of Auckland as quickly as possible and go see the rest of the country. I am going to take that advice; just another urban polluted city (maybe it's not quite that bad, but you know what I mean).
