Country S.Australia..
I'ts been six hours into the 12 hour journey from broken Hill to South Australia's Capital Adelaide. The train has picked up speed now as the land is more straight and softer than it has been traveling through the sandunes that forever mark the horizon I filled my belly at lunchtime time today. The meals on here are similar to what you get on an aircraft. I dived into the Sunday roast. Its a small plastic box filled with Vegetables, Chicken and Gravy. Its quiet nice in fact, but then having not eaten anything for the last two days I'm sure anything will do, Ive also got of VB. Its an awful beer but I no ill pay for it later..
County S.Australia
The scenery is spectacular, but different yet again. The train has taken its path Southwesterly through the wide open land. Most of the towns Ive have passed our railway towns, with very little visibility as there way out in the distance. They have foreign names such as Mingary, Olary, Mannahill, Yunta, Paratoo and Nackarra. The further South we venture the more hospitable the land appears. The fields are blooming with different colors, Purple, red, orange and yellow. Its feels like I'm traveling through the set of wizard of Oz. Really, its beautiful and it reminds me a little of wales. As we head through Perter borough, grazing sheep, Golden Fields of wheat and farm houses dot the landscape. Country S. Australia.
Its 2:45pm and the train is dropping speed as we head through suburban adelaide. Time for another well deserved stretch and I have to say the last 8 hours of the journey hasn't been that bad. Once again I'm thinking about my stomach. I'm starving. I'm over my hangover now although I'm still pinging a little, but it's all gud. Feeling very excitied..ADELAIDE
As I left the train I grabbed the nearest Cab into town. Most of the other fellow passengers opted to take a city sight seeing tour for $25, but whats the sense in that. I had to br different and do things myself. On arrival in the city I bounced straight to makas and filled my face with A quarter pounder meal and 8 nuggets. Fluckling lovely it was, and then I went to the nearest tourist info desk, grabbed a map and went for one of my walks,,.
The first thing I noticed about the city was that of the older generation. Heaps of elderly people filled the restaurants and cafes. In fact they seemed to be everywhere I looked just as the were Church's, monuments, statues and memorial sights. I have previously been to Adelaide but mainly stayed out in the suburbs so I did my city research before I came here and it did state that Adelaide was known as the city of church's. Unlike Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne where the young crowds flocked the streets filling up the bars and restaurant, It was the older generation that appeared to roam the streets here. I guess I just wasn't expecting things to be this way but it was lovely in its own write. I'm glad I came here and I'm glad I'm only staying for the afternoon. I'm sure my grandmother would feel very comfortable here if I could ever manage to get her Ar's onto a plane. That will never happen.
Its mid September, the end of winter and its bloody bitter as. Australia is a huge continent. Its about 16 degrees at the moment in the southern most point of South Australia. Just a short three hour flight away in the northern territory capital Darwin its 45 degrees. Its completely mad. In summer months in Adelaide the temperature has been known to hit 48 plus and drop to minus in the winter months. It can be summer in one state and winter in the other.
Adelaide itself was planned from the beginning in 1836 by surveyor colonel William light. so Its by far the most easiest city to get around. As the afternoon went on I found myself walking up and down the same streets as the town isn't really that big at all. I jumped on a bus and headed down to the city beach. I no it isn't beach weather but those who no me no I have a fascination with sharks. ha!ha! So a trip hear isn't complete without heading out for a quick dip in the shark infested waters of The Great Australian Bite. When I arrived at Henley beach I grabbed another munch (kebab) and sat down on the golden sand. I took a look around me and to my amazement, apart from a few older ladies wrapped up in layers of clothing walking there dogs, I was the only person sat on the beach. I sat back and munched up my food. I went down to the waters edge and paddled but the water just absolutely freezing so I returned back to the city and found myself running late for the train. I completely lost track of time and the train was departing within ten minutes. I couldn't afford to miss this as the next train doesn't leave until Thursday and I dint want to be stuck here for four days. No way man! so I grabbed the nearest cab and headed back to the train station. I opened the window in the cab and took as many pictures as I could to fill this blogg. Sorry for lack of detail in the Images. I tried my best.
Its 7pm and Ive just made it in time for the train. I had a little fright when I boarded as I left all my shit on board including my passport, tickets and most of my cash. I'm always losing things so I thought this would be best. The carriage I had been traveling on from Sydney had been taken off And the fucking Idiots crammed everyone on the day nighter seats into one carriage. Probably to save money or some shit like that. After thirty minutes of panic I eventually found my shit and was directed to my new seat where I had a new travel buddy, an old Italian guy who didn't speak a word of English and also loved to talk non stop! It was so enjoying but what do you do than try and be nice. I'm not happy. The conditions are worse than before and there are too many bodies floating around! Most of all this is the longest stretch as we leave Adelaide and head towards the longest flat surface in the world. The Nullabor.
The train has been moving for the last two hours as we've head out of the suburbs and into the country where we begin are overnight journey to rejoin the vast desert terrains to complete Isolation.
Its 10.05pm. The guy next to me is asleep already and so close to me that if hes turns awkwardly we are going to be touching. If that happens then I'm going to cause a huge fuss believe me. Thats all I need is a foreigner sleeping on me when I can move enough to sleep myself.
01.am. A sweet Lady came up to me tonight and ask me if I wanted to joined here for a game a cards. Gee lady! I no in gorgeous but come on.... Does it look like I no how to play cards.... thats just the the easiest pick up line. She might as well as just said would you like to join me in the shower room for a game of poker uno.. (hey Jules. I'm just kidding). I ventured for a shower and took her up on the offer for a game of cards although I didn't see such a thing. We sat there for hours just chatting about all kinds of things. Mainly relationships. HEY! why is every time I get into a good conversation with a GAL it ends up on the that same topic. RELATIONSHIPS! all the time. I have many of female friends and love to chat about the same thing. Not that I'm complaining as I really find it quiet amusing and I suppose its like having a free lesson on how a guy is supposed to read a women. I'll be able to write a book one day, although I'm sure us guys are just not meant to understand you girls. I dint no. Dint really care be honest he!he! Well the fact is I really enjoyed our chats and I have made a new mate. Her names Julie. Shes a Scouser living in Central London and has been traveling the world since her early twenty's. I thinks shes about thirty five though I'm not really sure as I'm afraid to ask her. My mother is very young looking and so are all my aunty's, and if I were to guess there aged, get it wrong and added a few years I would get a slap for sure so I dint got there. British women are very different to the average Ozzie Shelia.
Well tonight has left me feeling more sociable and approachable which is a good feeling and I'm looking forward for my stop in Cook tomorrow with my buddy Jules...
xx
