How to describe Amsterdam? It cannot be done. Let me look at how far I got before.
I left off at the Anne Frank House. I want to remember how moving it was. It walked through her life before and after. It was so moving. I bought a good book on the house. Some of the pictures she had hung on the wall were still there.
After the Anne Frank House we went to the Torture Museum. I must add that Mathew and I got along very well. It's too bad that he could not come back to Dresden with me. This museum had torture things in it. Everything from the iron maiden, thumb screws, to other things that I didn't want to know what they did.
Then we had dinner at a Thai place. I had something, I don't know what, but it was good.
After dinner we went back to the hostel for a bit to rest. Then it was time for the red light district. First for a few drinks, then to the erotic museum. It was much like the sex museum. I was tipsy and it was funny.
Around three am we were pretty drunk but still looking for beer. We then realized that most of the bars were closed and that we had outlasted the red light. I forgot to mention the prostitutes. They rent little rooms with glass doors each night. When they get a customer they would close the curtain and go to the bed in the back! How gross!
The next day we managed to get up early to go to the Van Gogh Museum. The first part of it was on his letters and not very interesting. But the paintings were amazing. There were actually even a few Monet's and Picasso's.
I was amazed. I could never pick my favorite. One was really different from the rest. It was of a skeleton smoking. What an incredible anti-tobacco add!
Next we headed over to the Modern Art Museum. There wasn't much that was real art, we just laughed at most of it. There was a rather interesting sex exhibit. It wasn't just sex, it was morality. There was also racist art. One piece was a vase of children they were saying things like "dropping bombs is good," and "I love to hate." It was extremely thought provoking.
This is when Mathew talked me into staying for an extra night. I sent an e-mail to work that I had gotten lost and missed my train. We should have gone to Brussels that evening, but didn't.
That night we went back to the red light, but it didn't quite hold the fascination that it had the night before.
The next day we went looking for pots. We wanted to say that we got pot in Amsterdam. How corny, but still fun! I also bought a picture of a prostitute.
Next we headed to Brussels. We wanted waffles. It took forever. But we did get there. We only had time for waffles and to see some of the buildings. We also saw Mannequin Pis. The peeing boy statue.
Then I almost didn't make it back. In the end I was able to beg my way onto a train.
In the morning I am going to see if I can work longer days but only 4 days a week. I could see so much more. This weekend I am going to Munich. I could be busy for several days there!
I went to the Kreuzkirche today. I even climbed the tower. It was a nice view. I want to work on seeing more of Dresden.
I don't really know what to do the following weekend. I don't think that Hamburg can really fill three days, but there is a town not far outside of it that might make a nice day trip.
I'm going to call my parents now. I hope they are doing well. I still miss them.
