Our journey during this day will take us from Devil's Lake, ND through East Glacier Park, MT to Whitefish, MT
Life on the train gets very simple and consists of things of which I am a big fan:
1. Sleeping. Includes little naps whenever you feel like it.
2. Eating. Food was always good for the meals, plus snacks and coffee available whenever you feel like it.
3. Daydreaming. When one of our stops would be in a small town, I would often try to get some kind of sense of what life would be like there
We stopped in Rugby, ND which claims to be the geographic center of North America. Instead of being proud, I think that would just make me feel surrounded.
Went through Glasgow, MT and Malta, MT in consecutive stops. In Europe, separated by 3420 miles. Here, only 70.
Seen out the window: lots and lots of farmland and blue skies, not enough cows. But, for about three seconds, a breathtaking sight. As we were pulling out of a station in Montana we were just gaining speed and running along side us were 4 wild horses. Variations of brown and black with beautiful flowing manes. Just all power, speed and grace.
Also seen near the entrance to Glacier National Park: a golf course. I just let out a sigh and wistfully recounted the glory of days gone by.
Because this is Amtrak, our train was behind schedule. For that reason we missed going through much of Glacier in daylight. But got to see the Continental Divide ... Well, a sign for it at least.
Our final station to get out and look around was Whitefish, MT.
So, that was our only full day on the train. Tomorrow we are in Washington state and into Seattle. Both of us having a grand time seeing new places.
