Where I stayed
This was the first time in our french journey that we found the proprietors of the hotel to be arrogant and rude. It was ironic given that we had stayed in some really beautiful places, with exceptional service and warm welcomes. This hotel must be one of the worst I think we had on our itinerary and the owners definitely believed it was something more than it was.
Anyway such is life and it was a bed to sleep in all the same. We didn't read the section about no eating in the room until we had finished doing so! A visit into Blois however was well worth the effort
We visited Chateau Blois and it was very impressive. The french chateaus are in contrast to the Scottish castles as the french design is obviously very different. So many more colours, and more vibrant at that, and everything on the walls, floors and ceilings is busy. It can at times be a bit of an eye sore. However the majority of the design is amazing and in particular the design of the spiral staircase which immediately caught my attention.
Following the Chateau, we went to the Musee of Magie (The Museum of Magic) which was a quirky little place with some excellent magical exhibits as well as a lot to do with Alice in Wonderland. It was a fun little centre and I enjoyed it, especially the optical illusion level which took you through a dark tunnel with 3D glasses, really awesome! We watched a magic show which was more like a strange quasi cabaret dance number but Master X was clapping and really getting into the groove. His smile alone confirmed he was having a good time.
Back to our unfriendly hotel but only for overnight. Purple hallways, it seems to be a colour often used in French buildings, especially the hotels. The sign at the end of the hall where there was a step down was translated to say "Please be kind to the step". OK, I will be. Promise.
