Port Lucaya is beautiful. Hundreds of boats are tied up to the marina docks that ring the hotel and restaurant area. We slept through lunch, so we had an early lunch at a Greek restaurant named Zorbas. The sandwiches were very good; they were traditional Greek food like Gyros. We met a lady form Canada who has been spending the winter here for the past 10 years. She tells us several helpful bits of information that help us plan our time here. The Pier One restaurant (where they feed the sharks at night) was destroyed in the hurricane last year. The Princess resort is closed, as the own took the insurance money for the hurricane repair and disappeared. The best places to eat are here in the marina area.
We went to the only casino open in the area, where we saw our friend from Canada. She is up $3500 from the slots, for the 4 months she has been here. We do not do that well, each of us loses $20-30 in a few minutes at the slots and poker machines. The casino is in the cluster of building called Our Lucaya. The Westin hotel is the largest building, and it is shaped like a 10 story cruise liner. The hedges around the buildings are made almost entirely from Hibiscus.
For dinner, we go to an Italian restaurant that our Canadian friend recommended. The name was La Doyci Vita and the food was excellent. On our way back from dinner, we take a stroll around the yacht basin. There are some beautiful boats here, from all over the world. There is a sailing yacht form England in the slip next to ours, and a yacht named Holy Cow from Austin Texas a few slips away. The Holy Cow has the doors open and the owners are watching the big screen plasma TV, which is imbedded in the pink marble mantel of the fireplace. Not my idea of a boat, but fun to look at.
