Tuesday, April 17th, Stage 73, Construction Site to Nata. 146km

Rosalyn saw an elephant today from her bike. I saw lots of grass, some fields of sunflower and sorghum and kilometers of electric fence keeping the wildlife away from the crops. After 146km we reached our campsite, a pleasant lodge outside of the town of Nata. It was very nice to have proper toilets and showers. It was a complete luxury to be able to hang out and swim in the pool!

After dinner at the restaurant we had TDA trivia night organized by several of the riders. We divided up into teams to test our knowledge of the other riders on the tour. Our team was comprised of Rosalyn, myself and the three Germans. We called ourselves the "German Jewish Connection" despite Rosalyn's protest that she is neither. The Germans vetoed my suggestion, Deutschland Uber Alles, as poor taste. During the game we discovered who among us makes their own wine, who speaks Tongan, who spent three years aboard a yacht and who trained Lithuanian circus midgets. The final round was “identify that rear-end” where we were shown photos of 22 backsides and had to put a name to each. We had fun but lost to a team appropriately named “The Cheaters”.
