Flag of Thailand  , Chiang Mai,
Saturday, November 3, 2012

Chiang Mai, located in the northern part of Thailand, is one of the most popular destinations in the country for foreign tourists.  Even though there is no beach nearby, it gives of the same vibe of a beach resort, which makes it interesting.  The city itself is home to tons of wats (Buddhist temples) and many, many foreigners who live here full-time.  The number one activity for most is a trip to an elephant farm, where you get to wash, feed, then ride an elephant.  It's not my thing, so I head out to see the wats in the late afternoon, when it isn't so hot to get around.

My first stop is a visit to Wat Phra Singh.  Built in 1345, then renovated in the early 19th century, this wat, one of the most important in Chiang Mai, houses the venerated Phra Singh (Lion Buddha), which is said to showcase the 'Lion' style, though I don't know what that means..
