28th Sept saw us leaving Groofontain. Ronnie joined us with a truck the evening before and we'd spent the afternoon mostly playing cards round the campsite. We had a self made steak dinner and an early night on the 27th.
The morning of the 28th we all moved stuff from the old truck to the new truck and went to town to get new tyres and supplies. Then our old truck and Peter left for Windhoek...i had a last ride in her to get to Groofontain...and Ronnie took us on towards Etosha. We weren't so fond on the seating arrangement on the new truck...well she may have broken down a lot...but you grow attached to even a temperamental truck! So now we can't really play cards on the truck...but nevermind...! We left Groofontain and headed into Etosha...arriving at the edge of the National Park at about 4pm. This gave us time to do a little game drive on our way to camp that night...and we managed to see Giraffe, Zebra, lions, Springbok etc
The morning of the 29th woke early for a lovely hot shower before departing for a 7am start to our game drive for that day. Greg was navigating for Ronnie, and we set off with a real purpose and quickly found lots of animals...there were lions at just about every waterhole we visited, the burchell's Zebra with it's brown markings as well as the black and white...was quite cool. Another Giraffe sub species to add to my collection of 5, this i believe was the Southern Savannah Giraffa...we saw oryx...which is quite a magnificent creature with it's straight long horns, and many more which i'll add detail to later. We stopped for lunch at Hanai lodge, where i sat by the pool after shopping for some postcards...successful lunch stop for me. Then in the afternoon we headed on for our afternoon game drive...where we saw more Lions...we'd seen almost 20 by the end of the day, and saw Steenbok and a few elephants...kori bustard and Secretary birds as well as ostrich and more

Bat Eared Fox
. all on our way into camp...not a bad start for our little game drive. That night was my solo cook for the group as my cook partner had departed the trip... i cooked fish cakes, baked potatoes and veg...not too bad except the fire was a little on the small side...but all got cooked and eaten...so classed as a success. After clearing up, Sara and I went down to the floodlight waterhole for a bit, but there was only Jackal's there...and they had been at our camp earlier...so no big deal...so headed back to camp to bed.The morning of the 29th woke early for a lovely hot shower before departing for a 7am start to our game drive for that day. Burchells Zebra
. We arrived at our night stop and sat by the pool for a bit before heading back to camp. Cook group of belinda and Sara had started dinner...but then the rain started too...so we all crowded onto the truck and sat chatting while Belinda and Sara dashed in and out trying not to get wet whilst keeping Chile con Carne cooking! Thunder and lightening cracked so close overhead that you could barely count a second between hearing and seeing...pretty cool really. Dinner was a success and the rain stopped...so i made a rice pudding and then headed down to the waterhole. When i got there, lots of people were around and in the distance we could see something moving...after a while an elephant came in from stage left...and shortly after the movement from earlier showed itself as 2 rhino's when they came down to drink in the water... unfortunately i didn't have my camera with me...so i've only got my own pictures, but they were cool. I got my camera and took some photos of the elephant (my night photography is improving Erin!), then when the Elephant had pretty much finished and the Rhino's were long gone i headed to bed. Exhausted.
