23rd September, woke and took down tents...sat around with breakfast waiting for the mechanic to be able to drive us to the campsite...the guys had been unable to find out much the night before as the barman at the campsite was new...so we were going to find out for ourselves. The guys said they'd arrive later that day with the truck, as Ronnie had left at 5am for Rundi to get the part fixed. We left at about 10am in the Mechanics minivan...with a broken chair...a dodgy battery...and no 4WD, which meant the road to the campsite...took a beating on the minivan...and Greg and Jamie had to get out and push at one point! Finally we arrived...and were infamous already...but got told that the only way you can do the delta with them is by booking months in advance so that wouldn't be possible...but we could do a two hour safari on the kavango River...so we booked that for the afternoon...and sat around chilling at the campsite. We weren't there long, when we were offered the ablutions tour...this was a fantastic tour...the campsite we were at has themed toilets and showers...there is the toilet of Eden...my favourite...very cute...there is the guys and girls showers...but they were a bit pokey...then there was the Holiday Inn 5*...this one had a roof on it...and was cool...so i decided to have my shower in there...there there was the outdoor Adventure...where the bucket was set up with holes in and trees etc round you...Sara chose this shower...then there was the shower and toilets that overlooked the river...which gave fantastic views of the wildlife and scenery...as long as a boat didn't pass...in which case you gave them quite a view...
A caged swim!
i tried out the throne room and luckily no boats passed at that time. We passed the morning dipping feet/swimming in the Croc and hippo cage pool. They have put a cage in the river...so that you can swim despite the fact there are hippos and crocs in the river... great fun. At 3pm we went to the river side to take our Wago (dug out canoe) down the river. It was 2 plus a polist...per canoe...and a very pleasant way of seeing the river. Crocs, hippos, snakes were all seen...we played a game of baton boating...selecting an order and then getting the baton passed in that order - ie alphabetically - through the boats...created much merriment. When we got back the truck wasn't there, but some of the staff at the campsite had been to town and brought us our tents and some food stuff so we could do dinner and set up tents...and said the truck should be there before dark. We set up tents and cooked the food and hung out by the bar. At 9pm when we still hadn't seen the truck, we asked if we could take a ride out to the truck to collect our night stuff etc... they took us out there...5 of them in the back and me riding with Arni, the South African Barman up front...when we got there...they were about to test drive it...so we took our night stuff and said we'd see them later. We didn't see them later. Next morning we bought breakfast and hung around at the camp until some of the staff from the campsite were coming in to town...and some of the guys caught a lift while the rest of us enjoyed the sun deck...the pool...the comfy chairs (sat chatting to one of the barmaids for ages...she'd only come over from the UK a little over a week ago...and was loving it). News from the truck wasn't good...the piston wasn't fixed...there was only 5 pistons...the guys would be coming at some point to give us our options...but the truck was not going to be going to cape Town! I think i worked that out in Uganda...some people take a little longer though! When the guys arrived it was decided...with phonecalls to Ron in the UK, that Ronnie would leave that afternoon and head out to Cape Town to pick up another truck. That we would move on the next morning...which we decided against...as we liked that campsite and we would be waiting until Wednesday at the earliest to meet Ronnie at the next Campsite...that we would roll on very slowly to Groofontain when we did move on...that we wouldn't eat that night as it was a sunday...the campsite couldn't cater for us...and the shops were closed...so we had a makeshift thick soup...and that Tracey would travel back to botswana to try and get a different truck. So i will skip on to 26th Sept...and moving on!
