5th September - Sara and I packed up our tent as early as we could and then asked Ronnie and Peter to meet us at the entrance so we could go to the little souvenir shops again, as this was our last day in Malawi - already! At 11am we arrived in Lilongwe - the capital of Malawi, and as I got off the truck, I overheard Heather and Jamie telling Ronnie that they weren't happy with the trip and were leaving at this point, and they walked off. A little surprised, but short of time, I made for the town to find a postcard shop and the post office, as I had a matter of hours left in the country and had only managed to find one postcard thus far...and no stamps...and had to make sure Grandpa got a postcard...that done I dashed back to the truck via a Strawberry seller - they were beautiful strawberries - and got back to the truck to the full gossip of the departure of the 'Americans'. With all the commotion we left a little late and headed to the border. When we got there and passed out of Malawi to the Zambian border we found a very disorganized border post which took ages to process us (and charged more for UK Citizens than any other - no fair). They wouldn't let Dee - being Iranian - into the country, so we had to depart from another truck member there, and he was going back to Malawi and flying to South Africa, a sad moment for the truck and the reduction from 17 passengers to 13 in one day was quite a shock. We then carried on to Mama Rula Campsite, where cook group prepared an amazing Carbonara, while I iced the cake and made a little rice pudding (but upset Tracey by not making Custard)...I put some left overs in a bowl for Ronnie and went to put it in the cab and had the shock of my life when Peters head appeared from his cab and I hadn't realized he'd gone to bed already, so after screaming in his face - the poor guy - I left him to go back to sleep and headed to the bar for a little while, before getting a fairly early night myself for an 8am departure the next morning.
