The next morning was a later start...so we had a big breakfast round the campfire, and I went souvenir shopping in the lane outside the hotel before we left, and the truck picked me up as we were leaving...pre-stated departure time at 9.50 because everyone was already in the truck to leave...that's a new one on us! We stopped at lunch time to shop in the large town of Mzuzu and drove on towards our campsite. When we were getting close we got stopped by a police man who advised us that there was a music festival at a local campsite and that we should go there...there was only a couple of people against and most people either for or ambivalent...so we headed there...when we found we had to pay to enter those who hadn't minded before were suddenly less keen, but Ronnie did some nifty negotiating so that only those that had to pay were those that wanted to go , so we entered the campsite and set up camp...unfortunately we were one of the later trucks to arrive, so we had to camp between the two stages, and those who hadn't paid had to keep a fairly low profile which didn't go down so well...but we just set up our tents and then the non-payees started to cook the dinner...which was very well received by all of the others when they were fetched, but by this point most people had drunk a fair amount, and Edwards mum wasn't particularly happy with this
Baking the Cake...with the pig!
. I was in a bad mood generally...so ended up arguing with Peter (but his mild manner forgave me probably quicker than I deserved), so I had an early night and the next morning had a long and forgiving chat with Peter in his cab...where he agreed to help me bake a cake that day...as I had wanted to ever since my birthday. The day for me, therefore consisted of making up my traditional cake recipe as best I could without scales...you can tell I've made it a few times!...whilst a pig roasted on a spit beside our camp for our dinner...and peter demonstrated the African way of cooking a cake with hot coals below the pot and more hot coals on the lid...and leaving it to cook....i went souvenir shopping with Sara before heading back to the camp fire to start our salads to accompany the pig, as I was on cook group, so by the end of the evening...we had a potato salad, rice salad, green salad and pig roast to enjoy...so we decided to save the cake for the next day...and I headed for a shower...by the time I returned everyone had gone to bed after the big night the night before...so I also headed for bed!
