I was awoken at 2.15 by Peter, come back from a night out that almost ended in a gun fight (they were out with Police Men who drew their concealed weapons to stop a fight in a bar), and who gleefully announced to us all that we could have a lie in, we didn't have to leave until 7.30 in the morning - not 7am. He made sure that Ange and I in particular had responded and recognized this news...at which point I said I'd rather have slept through and got up half an hour earlier...funnily enough this was enough for him to end his broadcast...and in the morning we all laughed and got made cups of tea (excepting Sara coz we ran out of water) as an apology for the wake up call...of course he was forgiven! We then set off on the rough roads into Northern Kenya, which funnily enough didn't seem nearly so bad with a full set of tyres on the rims! We noticed an added Police presence as we traveled along (with our armed companions) and were informed that there had been an agreement between Ethiopia and Kenya to sort the problem so they had both increased their police presence in the border areas to try and tackle the thieves/raiders. Very quickly the scenery was growing semi arid, and then more arid so that all you could see was the odd sparse bush...more like the Africa you imagine...it seemed a life time since we were last here. We had a couple of punctures en route but nothing to cause concern, so made it to Marsabit at about 4pm. We went straight to the petrol station to get our spares put on rims as we'd used the ones we did have on rims, and with that sorted and a little shopping done, we headed back to our cage of a campsite and made some food, one successful trip between Moyale and Marsabit - phew!
