so to start, thailand. land of smiles.
ah you gotta love that country.
where does one begin?
so i hung mostly with my mate, carl, who has a dive school in chonburi province.
only went on a couple of dives tho.
got another couple of pom mates there as well.
but plenty of boozing and learning a bit more thai- especially thai revolving around food.
mmmmmmm! i'm convinced thailand has the best cuisine in all of the world.
any place i can have a spicy brekky and not be looked at like a freak is on the top of my list.

diving eh? so i went on this day trip out in the gulf of thiland.
not all that far from the coast really.
my first dive since egypt in january, straight down to 30metres (at about 9am,after a good night boozing), a newly sunken wreck, the HMS Kood. visibility was about 1 metre at best. yay!

now whilst i'm not actually trained to wreck dive, wreck penetration has made up about a quarter of my diving career thus far. not really what u'd call experienced, but not quite a virgin either.
so we're checkin this wreck out for about half an hour, in and out of hatches and up stairwells etc.
all really fun stuff. then we go out again and along the side of this boat and into this access hole
which leads down a corridor and out again. now, i'm getting low on air, but no cause for alarm yet.
so in this corridor, its dark right and rob, the guy in front, goes thru a curtain and i follow. get thru the curtain and i can see no rob- i can hardly see half a metre away coz of all the silt thats been kicked up- and certainly i cant see which way to turn. not panicking, i wait for a moment and when he doesn't return after a minute or so, i go back outside. then josh goes in to find rob after telling me to make my way along the side of the boat. so going along the side of the boat, waiting, going,
waiting, going..... sucking down that good air and perhaps panicing just a wee bit (wee být? ha! yeah rýght!), i realize i've got just enuf air to surface with a safety stop.
now, i'm not gonna wait around to see if i can see the guys any longer, so up i go... and up... and up. 30 meters is a long way down. about 8-10 storeys if my calculations are correct. made the safety stop a bit too close to the surface, and for not quite the prescribed 3 minutes. anyway i surfaced with 2 bars of air left and a very nervous grin.
PHEW!!!!
was a bit worried about decompression sickness, but after lunch and a few hours surface interval,
went for the 2nd dive of the day. a shallow one compared to the Kood. aah joy!
i gotta say, i think i prefer shallower fun dives to wreck penetration.
but would i dive a wreck again?

silly question.
of course i will.
