After a long time at sea, anything longer than a week is a long time for me, it is great to be back on land. The warm, fresh, and salt water filled air of Marseille, France brightens the mood of all the sailors, especially the likes of Edmond Dantes.  Even though I have never been to France before, I know for a fact that the time period I am in adds a very unique style to the culture here.  People know each other more here, probably because of the fact that there are no electronics to keep us occupied inside our homes.  There is no facebook or myspace and the only twittering going on are done by the birds in the warm Mediterranean air.  I would presume that being so close to the sea regulates the temperature of the land.  In other words, winters are not intolerably cold and the summers don't get excruciatingly hot.  However, that is only my un-educated estimate but living so close to a large body of water my whole life gives me a good idea.

The mood here could not be better for Edmond Dantes.  After an unfortunate incident he became captain of his ship, to the much dislike of Danglars, at the ripe old age of twenty.  He was also about to marry his beautiful fiancÚ, Mercedes.

Here I am as a twenty-three year old still going to school to help start a career.  I know that I am not getting a late start on life but I did take a few years off and I think to myself how some people have great things happen to them and others are given them.  Dantes worked for these moments and he earned everything in life which will lead him to value them greater.
