Laura and I had many discussions about Phnom Penh, site of the imfamous Kmer Rouge prison used to torture and interrogate Cambodians, and site of the imfamous Killing Fields used for mass genocide just outside the city. These sites are now open to the public, and are visited by Cambodian school children to learn about their history and the generation of their parents or grandparents that was lost. I intended to visit here during the trip, but we decided that Stirling wasn't ready for this sort of history lesson just yet and we stayed an extra day in Siem Reap for exploring rural temple sites instead.

I will want to revisit Cambodia in the future, but this change in schedule worked out as the best choice for this trip. In the end everyone had a great time in the jungle outside Siem Reap and our stay in Phnom Penh turned into a bus trip layover. Laura held our spots with the bus company, while three of us explored a bit and bought some nice pizzas for the road trip to Vietnam.

Even with under an hour in Phnom Penh, Stirling managed to make new friends. The waitresses in the Italian restaurant fixed Stirling's hair, and one of them gave her a new hair tie. Stirling is a good person to have with you in Asia. We have found that many people like children and are very interested in caucasion westerners... Stirling gets the red carpet treatment everywhere we go!
