On Tuesday, June 3, Don stopped at MP 653 and drove back to Culbertson.

TOTAL MILES NOW 10,876.

Don and Loretta received a call from a "Wendy" in Williston, who read about their approach in the Williston Herald that day. Wendy turns out to be Wendy Miller, who wanted them to know that her friend, Carol Cruise, another long-distance walker, had just left Williston and would likely meet them in Culbertson.

Carol Cruise is an amputee walking the perimiter of the United States. She is founder of Faith Walk Ministries (http://www.faithwalk.net/ ). From Carol's website:
Carol's vision is to walk around the perimeter of the United States and pray for our country Carol Cruise
Carol Cruise
.  The mission...to claim this country for God and God's purpose and to share His love with all people.

Carol places a one-foot cross every mile she walks. She leaves these crosses to mark her progress and to spread the word of her mission.  Each cross has a card attached, explaining the ministry and asking that the cross be passed to the west of the location it was found.

There was much excitement in the lobby of the Diamond Willow Inn and Motel. Two Culbertson newspaper reporters had arrived to interview Carol. There must have been some racket in there, as Don and Loretta and the reporters vied for each other's stories! Carol and Wendy and Don and Loretta were especially interested in swapping information about gracious hotel owners who had supported them along Highway 2.

Carol ended up giving Don and Loretta $50 for their personal expenses. The owner of the Diamond Willow, Charles Butler, gave Don and Loretta a check for $130 for HDSA.

I have posted a couple of Carol's photos, but you can see much more at http://www.flickr.com/photos/faithwalker/sets/ .
