Wandered through the Arab Quarter, trying not to eat everything on offer- fruit, mini falafel, fresh baked goods, nutty halvah, olives and pink, pickled cauliflower- because it was Ramadan and everyone was fasting.
Followed the Via Dolorosa, Christ's path to the crucifixion, past small churches full of singing pilgrims.
Entered the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Like the city, it's shared by many faiths. It has various sections for the Armenians, Greek Orthodox and Catholics. I'm missing one... At the entrance there were people kneeling in front of and kissing a slab of rock. It was the rock where Jesus' body was washed. I can't imagine how overwhelming a visit to Jerusalem must be for someone even slightly religious.
Tasted yummy Arabic coffee- it's flavored with ground cardamom. Tried to catch a movie at the film festival- I'll have to go back to the Cinemateque, such a cool venue- but the timing wasn't right. So instead we collected everything we needed for a night time picnic: hummus, pita, labaneh in oil (delicious goat cheese like bocaccini), olives, tomatoes and red wine. Yum!
